Settled in the year 1650, Pembroke, Massachusetts is a suburban town 26 miles south of Boston. With a population of 18,549, it is a primarily residential community and has an open town meeting form of government, having a town administrator and board of selectmen. The 2013 median income per household was $86,887, with each household having an average size of 2.92. The real estate tax rate for 2015 is $14.74 per one thousand dollars of assessed valuation.

The town consists of 21.85 square miles of land area, with North Pembroke containing many rivers and streams, while the southern region boasts several ponds. The southwestern section of the town is known as Bryantville. Pembroke’s proximity to Boston allows for transportation in the form of MBTA Commuter Rail service in the neighboring towns of Hanson, Halifax, and Kingston.

Public and Private Schools

Pembroke has three elementary schools that serve kindergarten through sixth grade; Bryantville, Hobomack, and North Pembroke. The Pembroke Community Middle School serves seventh through eighth grade and Pembroke High School serves ninth through twelfth grade. Pembroke High School’s most successful athletic programs are ultimate Frisbee and golf.

Pembroke Community Services

The town has its own police and fire departments and its own emergency services. The nearest hospitals are Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, Brockton Hospital in Brockton, and South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Pembroke provides trash and recycling collection for a mandatory annual fee.

Community and Recreation

The residents of Pembroke are proud of the town’s rich history, as evidenced by the existence of the Pembroke Historical Society and the maintenance of many historical buildings, such as the Pembroke Friends Meetinghouse. In terms of arts and leisure Pembroke supports a number of arts groups, shares a public access organization known as PACTV, and is home to the Pembroke Country Club, which features an 18-hole golf course.
